To create my design for the phone Holder I wanted to try and make a holder that would hopefully amplify sound and also have a hole for a phone charger to go into. I started with just having two holes for the speaker part. with it a rounded rectangle. When I started it in Inventor the hole for the phone I didn't have the hole go down as much so that left some extra space at the bottom blank. So I then made lines on that space as a picture for sound to make it less simple. I also made holes going through the back and the bottom for a charger to go into.
To create my phone holder I started in Inventor with creating a rectangle and putting it to the right dimensions and extruding it. Then I made the hole in box with the right dimensions for the width and then when extruding for the depth of how far I wanted the phone to go in. Then I just made two holes so it would do the sound part. At first they were just holes but then using a tool called filament tool I made the holes go outward more making it transitional to help with the sound. Then I made the holds for the chord to be able to go through. Which was just two squares going through the center for the back and front. Although there was still some empty space at the bottom that I needed to fill. I decided to put lines on it like sound for a song and sketched them in on Illustrator and expanded them but so they were all connected together so it did not look like it so I did every other line was sketched and expanded. Then I did the second part of lines and when expanded were .02 more so they were not all connected together. After doing that and having it be checked off I put it into Maker Bot and doing all the settings to maker it print correctly I saved that to my flash drive and went down to the 3D printer and started to print it. It took about 8 hours and 30 minutes to print.
What I Learned
What I learned from this assignment was to think things through fully before doing. When doing calculations I did not compensate for all the extra space at the bottom of the holder. I did figure out what to do with it but it took me longer due to not knowing what to do with it at first. This also happened with the two holes for the speakers before editing them they were just two holes that would not do anything for sound. Another thing I learned was to look over measurements before going and printing. My holes for the charger are not that big and are not able to have some of my chords go through. As when i made them i didnt think too much on measurements and just made them.
